The Accountant

Penas e Hijos, Banca · Aguasnegras · «Su dinero está a salvo. Probablemente.»

The Accountant

Grim & Sons Banking Co. · Blackwater · “Your money is safe. Probably.”

You are the new junior accountant at a decaying bank in 1907. Every client brings an account that must balance to an exact figure using a handful of numbers and operations. Balance it and you get paid. Miss and your Good Name suffers. At zero Good Name, you are dismissed.

PLAY

How to play

  1. Every client needs their account to reach the balance required, exactly.
  2. Tap figures and operations to build a working. Each figure may be used once; you need not use them all, but balancing with every one makes it a Perfect Account, which pays more.
  3. The office adding machine works left to right: 2 + 3 × 4 = 20. Division must come out whole.
  4. Submit before the client runs out of patience. Three balanced accounts in a row win back Good Name.
  5. After each day, spend your wages at the Supply Office on desk objects and drawer supplies.
  6. On Friday comes The Audit. Survive it and a new fiscal year begins, with larger sums.

The Daily Account

Three new accounts every day, the same for everyone. The clock never stops: you can only present an account once it balances, giving up adds 3 minutes and every Perfect Account takes 15 seconds off. Share your time with friends without spoiling the answer.

Service Record and Personal Effects

The Board awards 41 commendations for all sorts of things: surviving Audits, streaks of balanced accounts, Perfect Accounts, enormous sums, squashing the rat. Some unlock Personal Effects: new offices, stamp inks, adding-machine keys, music and hats for the rat. They are purely cosmetic and never change the game.
